Mount Abu,
Rajasthan's only hill station and a major pilgrim centre, is located
in the south-western corner of Rajasthan, close to Gujarat. It is
situated at the average height of 1,219 meters above sea level and
is like the oasis in the deserted land of Rajasthan. The history of
Mount Abu is as diverse as the city itself. It was once a part of
the Chauhan kingdom of Rajasthan and served as a summer resort for
the Rajput kings of the region. After that, it was leased by the
British government from then Maharaja of Sirohi for used as a
headquarter of the Rajputana (another name for Rajasthan).
